Google’s Android Beats Apple In Mobile App downloads

People may love their iPads and iPhones, but they’re already buying more Android devices, and software.

Android winning the iOS app. sales battle

Android winning the mobile app. sales battle

We love our Apple devices. We love the iPad in business. We love iPhones to the tune of 17-million phones sold in Apple’s last quarter. But, there are far more Android phones sold than there are iPhones, and with nicely priced Android tablets such as the ViewSonic 7e and Amazon Kindle Fire, the iPad is being challenged on tablets as well. So, love aside, perhaps it shouldn’t come as any surprise that ABI Research is reporting that Android is now number one in mobile application downloads.

According to ABI Research, In the second quarter of 2011, “Android overtook iOS to become the market share leader in mobile application downloads. The market shares of Android and iOS were 44% and 31%, respectively.”

In case you’re keeping score at home, there are still more iOS applications than there are Android applications and iPhone and iPad users are far more likely to download an application than their Android brothers and sisters. “Despite leading in total mobile application downloads, Android’s app downloads per user still lag behind Apple’s by 2-to-1,” said Dan Shey, ABI Research’s practice director, mobile services in a statement. “Apple’s superior monetization policies attracted good developers within its ranks, thus creating a better catalog of apps and customer experience.”

So why is Android winning then? There are two reasons. First, as Lim Shiyang, an ABI research associate stated, “Android’s open source strategy is the main factor for its success. Being a free platform has expanded the Android device install base, which in turn has driven growth in the number of third party multi-platform and mobile operator app stores. These conditions alone explain why Android is the new leader in the mobile application market.”

That sounds good, but I think the real reason is that people are simply buying the more affordable Android devices. By ABI’s numbers, “IPhone shipment growth in Q2 2011 slowed to 9% from 15% a quarter earlier. In contrast, Android smartphone shipments increased 36% in Q2 2011, compared to 20% in Q1. Android’s install base now exceeds iOS by a factor of 2.4-to-1 worldwide; by 2016 this factor will grow to 3-to-1.” In short, Android phones are out-selling iPhones, and so, as the Android hardware market grows ever larger, so does Android software sales.

Combined, according to Download.com’s numbers, mobile software downloads have already left Windows downloads in the dust. Using ABI’s data, this trend seems certain to continue. According to ABI, “Global app downloads for year-end 2011 are expected to balloon to 29 billion, compared to only nine billion in 2010. Such stellar increases are largely due to the proliferation of smartphones around the world. The total smartphone install base is expected to grow 46% in 2011.”

SICK… SICK!….CANADA LEGALIZES INFANTICIDE

Well, it may as well read that given how a Canadian judge ruled a woman who strangled her new born son got no jail time for doing so:
From the Court of Queen’s Bench (the appellate court) in Alberta:
The Wetaskiwin, Alta., woman convicted of infanticide for killing her newborn son, was given a three-year suspended sentence Friday by an Edmonton Court of Queen’s Bench judge.

Katrina Effert was 19 on April 13, 2005, when she secretly gave birth in her parents’ home, strangled the baby boy with her underwear and threw the body over a fence into a neighbour’s yard…
Effert will have to abide by conditions for the next three years but she won’t spend time behind bars for strangling her newborn son.

‘I Will Destroy Android’….. Steve Jobs Vowed

If Steve Job’s is right with his accusations I sure hope his predecessors with Apple continue to take Google down for this!….PM

Google accused of ‘grand theft’ in new authorised biography
Apple’s visionary co-founder Steve Jobs swore he would spend all of his company’s $40 billion to annihilate Google’s rival smartphone operating system.

The technology magnate’s hatred of Android is laid bare in a forthcoming official biography.
Jobs told author Walter Isaacson that he viewed Android as “grand theft” of his idea for a mobile operating system.

“I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this,” read a quote from Jobs in an extract of Isaacson’s book

“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” he added, as quoted by the Associated Press.

Apple is currently in a legal battle with numerous smartphone manufacturers that use Android.
Google chairman Eric Schmidt (pictured, right of Jobs) sat on the board of Apple when the first iPhone was in development.

Apple unveiled its revolutionary phone in January 2007, just ten months before Google revealed its own plans to launch Android.
Schmidt resigned from the Apple board in August 2009.

“I was on the board until I couldn’t stay on the board anymore,” he told Bloomberg at the time.

Android is a significant rival in Apple’s smartphone business, with the likes of HTC and Samsung building numerous devices based on the OS.

Occupy Dallas: Police Investigating Sexual Assault of 14-Year-Old Girl…

And just last week Obama compared OWS to the Tea Party. Last time I checked there weren’t any sexual assaults at Tea Party protests.

CBS 11 News has learned of an investigation into the possible sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl at the Occupy Dallas campsite.

When police took the girl into custody Sunday afternoon she reportedly told them she had been having sex with a man in his 20’s at the Occupy Dallas encampment and had engaged in sexual activity with several other people.

One Occupy Dallas protestor said if the allegations are true measures should be taken to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We’ll find out what the truth is and if that’s her story, that she was having sex with older men in the park, I guess we really need to watch the age group that’s coming in here and get control of that,” Rich Coffman said.

NPR Host Husband Works On Obama’s Reelection Campaign As Senior Adviser…

Of course there’s no liberal bias at NPR!

National Public Radio’s Michele Norris, who co-hosts All Things Considered, is stepping down “temporarily” from her post as her husband works to re-elect President Barack Obama.

Norris’ husband, Broderick Johnson, worked for Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign, and for Obama’s 2008 White House bid. Norris did not step down in 2008, but did recuse herself from political coverage in 2004.

Johnson will be a “senior adviser” for the Obama 2012 campaign, according to an internal message Norris sent her colleagues.

“After careful consideration, we decided that Broderick’s new role could make it difficult for me to continue hosting ATC,” Norris wrote, explaining to coworkers her discussions with NPR management. “Given the nature of Broderick’s position with the campaign and the impact that it will most certainly have on our family life, I will temporarily step away from my hosting duties until after the 2012 elections.”

Apparently Norris will be continuing to produce some news content for the taxpayer-subsidized radio network — just not 2012 political coverage. “I will be leaving the host chair at the end of this week, but I’m not going far,” Norris adds in her memo to staff. “I will be wearing a different hat for a while, producing signature segments and features and working on new reporting projects. While I will of course recuse myself from all election coverage, there’s still an awful lot of ground that I can till in this interim role.”

Senior Health Care Without Premiems

So you’re a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home available for you, what do you do?

Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot four Congressmen.

Of course, this means you will be sent to prison where you will get three meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating, air conditioning and all the health care you need! Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That’s great. Need a new hip, knees, kidney, lungs or heart? They’re all covered. And, as an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you as often as they do now.

And who will be paying for all of this? It’s the same government that just told you that you they cannot afford for you to go into a home.

Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don’t have to pay any income taxes anymore.

Is this a great country or what?

Wall Street Occupiers Turn NYC Zuccotti Park Into a Cesspool, “It’s Like Walmart For Rats”…

Filth-ridden Zuccotti Park is a breeding ground for bacterial infection loaded with potential health-code violations that pose a major risk to the public, an expert who inspected the area warned.

“It’s like Walmart for rats,’’ Wayne Yon, an expert on city health regulations, said yesterday.

“There’s a lack of sanitation, a lack of controls for hot and cold water,” Yon said. He saw at least 15 violations of the city’s health code — the type that would easily shut down a food establishment.

He noted the lack of lavatory facilities, as neighbors repeatedly complain about protesters defecating in the area and the stench of urine.

Yon also pointed to unsanitary conditions in wash bins for cleaning food utensils.

“It looks extraordinarily dirty, and [the bin] should be changed once it starts to get dirty,” said Yon, who works for EHA Consulting Group Inc. Then he pointed to a pigeon in a tree right above where the protesters were washing dishes.

“There’s no overhead coverings. Pigeons are basically vermin,” Yon said.

He said there’s inadequate hand washing, the No. 1 culprit for food-borne illnesses in restaurants.

“Occupy Wall Street” Goon Who Was Wanted By Police Is Finally Arrested… But Only After Groping Several Women

A Libyan rebel, who identified himself as Senad el Sadik el Ureybi, claims on video that he was the one to execute tyrant Moammar Gaddafi.

Yup. They’re just like the tea party.

IN PLAIN SIGHT: A protest attendee named Dave (above) relaxes in Zuccotti Park, where he said he’s been getting high while running from warrants.

The Occupy Wall Street goon who admitted he was wanted by police was finally arrested after groping several women. The woman he allegedly assaulted declined to press charges, they didn’t want to hurt the cause.
